AI Companion Privacy: What to Check Before You Subscribe

Conversations with an AI companion get personal quickly, which makes privacy a fair thing to interrogate before you subscribe to anything — including this. The single most important question is also the one almost nobody asks.

Who actually runs the model reading your messages?

Most AI companion products are a front end over somebody else's API. Your message goes to their server, and then straight out to a third-party AI vendor to generate the reply. That means your most personal conversations exist on infrastructure belonging to a company you never chose, under terms you never read, subject to whatever retention and training policy that vendor applies.

It is worth asking directly: does my conversation leave your servers?

The language model and the image generation both run on infrastructure we operate ourselves, so your conversation content is not sent to an outside AI vendor to produce a reply. That is stated plainly in our Privacy Policy, and it is the main structural reason this product can make privacy promises that an API wrapper genuinely cannot.

The checklist

Apply these to any companion product you are considering:

• Where is the model? Self-hosted, or a third-party API? This determines everything else.
• Is conversation content used for advertising or training? It should not be. Ours is not, and we do not sell personal information.
• Who else touches your data? Ask for the list of subprocessors. Ours is one: Stripe, for billing. Card numbers never reach us — we get a payment confirmation and a subscription reference.
• What is the retention policy, and can you get deleted? You should be able to request deletion of your account and data. Ours operates under Canada's PIPEDA; deletion requests go to support and are honoured subject to legal and billing-record obligations.
• Are the cookies functional or advertising? Ours are session cookies to keep you signed in — functional, not tracking, and they expire on their own.
• How hard is cancelling? A retention maze is a privacy signal too. Here it is one click, from the account panel or any email's unsubscribe link.
• What appears on your card statement? A reasonable thing to care about with any adult subscription, and a reasonable thing to ask support before you subscribe.

Is the content itself moderated?

Every generated photo passes automated moderation before it reaches your inbox — if something does not pass, it is regenerated or replaced rather than sent. Photos stay tasteful and never contain nudity. Conversation itself is uncensored and can be intimate, at whatever pace you set, with hard safety limits enforced structurally rather than left to the model's judgement. 18+ only.

Being straight about the limits

No product can promise perfect security, and anyone who does is selling you something. What you can reasonably evaluate is the shape of the risk: how many companies hold your conversations, what they are contractually allowed to do with them, and how quickly you can leave. Fewer parties and a one-click exit is a materially better position than a cheap subscription that routes your private life through an API you never agreed to.

Email is also worth a thought. Conversations arrive in your inbox, which means their privacy is partly your email provider's and partly yours — a shared device or an unlocked screen is outside anyone else's control.

Questions people ask

Are AI companion conversations private?

It depends entirely on the product. The key question is whether the company runs its own model or forwards your messages to a third-party AI vendor, because that decides how many organisations hold your conversations. Here the model and image generation run on our own infrastructure, so conversation content is not sent to an outside AI vendor.

Do AI girlfriend apps sell or train on your data?

Some reserve the right to; read the privacy policy rather than the marketing page. We do not sell personal information and do not use conversation content for advertising.

Who else can see my messages?

Ask any provider for its list of subprocessors. Ours is limited to Stripe for payment processing, which never receives conversation content. Your full card number never reaches us either - we receive a payment confirmation and a subscription reference.

Can I have my data deleted?

Yes. Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing support. Some records, such as billing history, are retained where there is a legal or accounting obligation.

Do AI companion sites use tracking cookies?

Many do. Ours uses a small number of functional session cookies to keep you signed in to your account panel; they are not advertising or tracking cookies and expire automatically.

Is an AI companion safe to use?

From a content standpoint, check that generated media is moderated before delivery rather than after a complaint. Every photo here passes automated moderation and never contains nudity, while conversation is uncensored for adults 18 and over.

What shows up on my credit card statement?

Worth asking any adult subscription service before you sign up rather than after. Contact support and ask what descriptor appears.

Is it safe to have these conversations arrive by email?

The email channel is as private as your inbox is. Nothing on our side is shared with anyone, but a shared computer or an unlocked phone is outside our control - use an account only you can read.
